Trent Schield’s introduction to actively managed strategies began in his early teens, when he rode the bus from school to his father's office.
His father—rather than watch his son engage the hard working employees with his gift of conversation—put him to work doing statistical research.
Later, when the company built a website for advisors, Trent was asked to present it to the 80+ advisors at one of their annual conferences: he was a natural born speaker.
By listening in on conversations with advisors, he quickly learned how to convey the attributes of actively managed strategies to advisors, simplifying the complex for clients.
Based upon that talent, the logical next step after college was to become an internal wholesaler. But that was short lived, and he soon had the real experience out in the field, not in the office.
With over 25 years of this experience, Trent has helped thousands of advisors understand the principles of risk-managed strategies, and more importantly, how to address the emotional decision making by clients that too often destroys well-thought-out investment programs. He has worked one-on-one with clients as well as addressed groups of thousands at national conventions.
Together with his father, Marshall Schield, Trent recently published the book “Dow 85000! Aim Higher!” which draws upon his decades of sector investing experience and his first “investment love”—active sector allocation. “Advisors and clients need to know they can do better, much better, than simply buy and hold.” He opines, “What is needed is the right mixture of active strategies that smooth the ride and balance performance. The time is right; it's a perfect investment environment for active sector allocation to add significant over performance.”
Trent takes immense pride in his family, which includes his three children: Cole, who is carving out an independent path; Vann, who is a running back at Colorado State University; and Levi, who showcases his talent both on the field and the wrestling mat. Trent has built a bustling household with the love of his life and soulmate, Kelly, and her three children: Brayden, an ambitious young adult attending the University of Kansas; Preston, who made varsity football as a freshman; and Colton, a multi-sport talent. Trent affectionately refers to his blended family as his “8MAZING.”
